I’d heard from the sighting reports on ebird.org that Sapsuckers were back in the area, but had not seen any in our yard until today when we were finishing up lunch. One adult flew in and landed on one of our oaks. It was soon joined by a second one – a juvenile I believe.

They flew around and checked out the trees, sometimes together.

I have seen Sapsuckers here in the area for each of the past several winters. They seem to favor our bald cypress trees, and in the photo above you can see rows and rows of holes they’ve made in years past. Have not seen them here in the summer.
